This page explains what personal data we collect when you visit our website or get in touch with us, why we need it, and what rights you have.
We have tried to write it in plain language. If anything is unclear, email us at office@distler.engineering and we will explain.
1. Who we are

We are the controller under Article 4(7) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR). This means we decide why and how your data is processed, and we are accountable for it.
We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer. We are not required to. None of the conditions in Article 37(1) GDPR apply to us: we are not a public authority, we do not monitor people, and we do not process special categories of data. For any data protection matter, write directly to office@distler.engineering.
2. What we use your data for
We are a mechanical engineering company. We design and build jigs, fixtures, special-purpose tooling and bespoke technical solutions for industrial customers. We only process personal data to the extent that work requires.
2.1 The contact form on this website
What we collect: your name, company, email address, phone number, and whatever you write in the “Project details” field.
Why: so that we can answer your enquiry and prepare a quotation.
Legal basis:
- If you are asking about working with us or requesting a quote — Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, steps taken at your request before entering into a contract.
- For any other kind of message — Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in replying to a message you sent us.
Note that we do not ask for your consent and the tick box on the form is not a consent. It confirms that you have read this notice. We process your data because you approached us, not because you gave us permission to.
How long:
- If the enquiry does not lead to business: 12 months from our last exchange. That is roughly how long it takes before we can tell an enquiry has gone quiet. After that we delete it.
- If it leads to an order: the data moves into our contract and accounting records — see 2.3 and 2.4.
Do you have to fill it in? No. The form is entirely voluntary. But without an email address or phone number we cannot reply, and without a description of your project we cannot quote. The remaining fields simply make our work easier.
2.2 Email and telephone
When you write or call, we process your email address, phone number and the content of the exchange.
Legal basis: Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where it concerns a contract or negotiations about one; otherwise Article 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in conducting ordinary business correspondence.
How long: correspondence relating to a concluded contract is kept for 4 years after the contract ends. This matches the limitation period for commercial obligations under Section 397 of the Slovak Commercial Code (Act No. 513/1991 Coll.) — beyond that point the correspondence has no evidential value for us. Other correspondence is deleted within 12 months.
2.3 Performing a contract with a customer or supplier
If we work with you or your company, we process identification and contact details of the people acting for that company: name, job title, email, phone, and sometimes a signature on a delivery note.
Legal basis: Article 6(1)(b) GDPR if you are personally a party to the contract; Article 6(1)(f) GDPR if you are an employee or representative of a contracting party — our legitimate interest is simply knowing who we are dealing with on a project.
How long: for the duration of the contract and 4 years afterwards (Section 397 of the Commercial Code). Documents that also qualify as accounting records fall under 2.4.
2.4 Accounting and tax
Names of contact persons appear on invoices and delivery notes.
Legal basis: Article 6(1)(c) GDPR — compliance with a legal obligation. Specifically Section 35 of Act No. 431/2002 Coll. on Accounting and Section 76 of Act No. 222/2004 Coll. on VAT.
How long: 10 years. This period is set by law, not by us, and we cannot shorten it even if you ask.
2.5 Cookies and similar technologies
Strictly necessary cookies are what make the site work — they remember, for example, the choice you made in the cookie banner. Without them we would have to ask you again on every click.
Legal basis: Section 109(8) of Act No. 452/2021 Coll. on Electronic Communications does not require consent for these, because they are necessary to provide the service you asked for. Under the GDPR this is Article 6(1)(f) — our legitimate interest in a working website.
All other cookies — functional, preferences, statistics, marketing — are only stored if you consent through the banner shown on your first visit.
Legal basis: Section 109(8) of Act No. 452/2021 Coll. and Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.
You can withdraw consent at any time, and it is as easy as giving it — click the cookie settings icon in the footer. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew.
How long: the record of your consent is kept for 12 months, after which the banner asks again. Individual cookies have their own lifetimes, which you can see in the banner settings.
We carry no advertising on this site and use no ad networks. If that ever changes, we will update this notice before it does.
2.6 Website traffic and server logs
Our hosting provider keeps technical access logs for the server. They contain IP address, time of access and browser type, and serve to operate and secure the server.
Legal basis: Article 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in running the site securely.
How long: the retention period is set by the hosting provider as part of its own operation. We do not routinely access these logs and do not use them to identify visitors.
3. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your data. We do not pass it to anyone for marketing purposes.
The following recipients have access, strictly to the extent their service requires:

Where a recipient processes data on our behalf, we have a written agreement in place under Article 28(3) GDPR.
The consent management tool we use (Complianz) stores your consent on our own server. It does not send your data anywhere.
We do not transfer your data outside the European Union. All recipients listed above operate in the Slovak Republic and the data is held on servers within the European Union. The fonts used on this site are hosted on our own server, so nothing is loaded from third-party services when you visit. Should that ever change, we will update this notice before it does.
4. No automated decision-making, no profiling
We do not use algorithms that make decisions about you without a human involved. We carry out no profiling within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR.
5. Your rights
Under Articles 15 to 22 GDPR you have the right to:
- Know what we hold about you (Article 15) — request a copy of your data.
- Have inaccurate data corrected (Article 16).
- Have data erased (Article 17) — where it is no longer needed, where you withdrew consent, or where we processed it unlawfully. This does not extend to data we are legally required to keep, such as invoices.
- Restrict processing (Article 18) — for instance while we look into an objection.
- Data portability (Article 20) — receive your data in a machine-readable format; this applies only to data processed on the basis of consent or a contract.
- Object to processing (Article 21) — whenever we rely on legitimate interest. Unless we can demonstrate compelling grounds that override your interests, we will stop.
- Withdraw consent (Article 7(3)) — at any time, wherever consent is the legal basis.
How to exercise a right: email office@distler.engineering. We will respond within one month (Article 12(3) GDPR). If it will take longer, we will tell you and explain why. There is no charge.
If we cannot verify that the request really comes from you, we may ask for further information (Article 12(6) GDPR).
6. Complaining to the supervisory authority
If you think we are handling your data badly, please come to us first — most things can be sorted out directly.

7. Security
Only people who need the data for their work can access it. The site runs over encrypted HTTPS. Mail and hosting are with a professional provider.
The company has three people, so the circle with access to any data is very small.
8. Changes to this notice
If we change how we process data, we will update this notice and change the date at the top. It is worth checking back occasionally.
